The Union City Community Foundation holds assets in
endowment of more than $4 million. As a public charity,
and one of hundreds of community foundations around the
nation, the UCCF makes grants to deserving Union City
area charities from the interest income resulting from
investment of these assets.
Oversight of the Foundation is the responsibility of a
16 member board of trustees who are members of the
community. The Foundation, by law, may make grants only
to incorporated, nonprofit organizations having
charitable purposes. The trustees encourage Union City
agencies that meet these requirements to submit
applications for worthy projects. Technical grant
writing workshops will be held several times a year in
Union City for interested applicants.
One of
the largest endowments of The Union City Community
Foundation was established by LaRue Ottaway. You may
recall that Mr. Ottaway was the president of the former
Union City Chair Company. Originally the money was left
to the Union City Hospital. When the Union City Hospital
closed, the funds came under the auspices of Saint
Vincent Hospital. Today the endowment, worth a little
over $1 million, is named the Ottaway/Saint Vincent
Health Center Fund of the Union City Community
Foundation. UCCF has oversight of income from a
number of other funds as well. These are the Jasper
Drake Scholarship Fund, the David & Autumn Hoffman Fund,
and the Cooper Family Fund. Today the total market value
of these funds is nearly $4 million dollars.
The Union City Community Foundation is proud to announce
our recent affiliation with The Erie Community
Foundation. This brings all the services and
capabilities of a $140 million foundation right here to
Union City. Our local board will still handle grant making
decisions. We can now, however, rely on The Erie
Community Foundation for investment management, back
office, administrative, program evaluation, marketing
and development consulting services.
Donna
Douglass, The Erie Community Foundation Director of
Regional Affiliates, will provide direct staff support
for our volunteer Board of Trustees. A Corry native,
Donna has over 20 years experience in the nonprofit
field. In this newly created position, she will also
provide services for community foundations serving
Corry, North East and Findley Lake, NY.
